Bottling the Bavarian Hefeweizen
As I mentioned in my last post, I bottled my Bavarian Hefeweizen one week after transferring the beer to the secondary fermenter.  I was able to produce produce about 512 ounces or 42 (12 oz.) bottles worth.  I used a mixture of vessels to bottle the beer in: 2 growlers 6 pint flip tops 24 Standard 12 oz. bottles.  I really enjoyed the bottling tool that was provided in my brewing kit. It...

First Brew Day 2.0
As you may know I recently upgraded my Mr. Beer 2 gallon brewing system to a much bigger 5 gallon Austin Home Brew 2 Stage System. For my first attempt at using this new system I decided to brew a Bavarian Hefeweizen recipe that was given to my by the Austin Homebrew Supply.  They said that this is a good recipe for people who are new to brewing beer. Also, pretty much everybody I know likes a...

512 Spring Seasonal
Recently, Yenny and I went to the Spring Seasonal Release at (512) Brewing Company.  Showcased at the release was the Black IPA, shown above.  The (515) event was very lively with live music, food, and plenty of people with their dogs.  Other (512) beers were also available on draft in addition to their double cream stout in casks. Enjoy the Pics. Some of the makeshift serving lines at the...

This is a Grand Opening Blog
Last weekend, Circle Brewing Brewery had their grand opening. It was a free public event and they offered three free 5oz.  beer tastings, however if you bought a Circle Brewing branded pint glass, you got pint sized samples. As you can see in the picture above, I opted for the latter. Apparently, Circle Brewing follows the German Purity Laws, the ingredients listed above should be...

I think I found my new hero. →
Here is a link to a page on Brew Your Own about a guy named Justin Burnsed, who would you know it, also has a blog. However Justin is just no ordinary guy, but possibly my new hero/idol/what I want to be when I grow up/totally envious of him can I please be reincarnated as him and live his life. Okay that last part might have been a little too much, but needless to say this guy is living the...

Ready for the Red Ale
A few weeks ago I bottled the red ale, after letting it ferment for three weeks. I taste tested it after two weeks, and the beer was still sweet, and the extra week really helped improve the flavor of the beer.  Earlier this week, I put the bottles in the fridge and they should be ready to drink, so in few days I should have another video tasting up on the blog.  In the mean time, enjoy the...

St. Arnold Austin Beer Week Scavenger Hunt
This past week I decided to take on St. Arnold’s challenge to a scavenger hunt around Austin, Texas for Austin’s Beer Week.  I had to watch a video that included 6 clues of places I had to go to and take a picture of myself with a specific object shown in the video.  After all the entries are sent in a winner will be selected, and the prize of a kegerator will be given to the winner,...

The Second Batch
Okay, so lately I’ve been procrastinating a little on brewing beer and posting blog entries, but I have good reasons. I’ve been busy looking for a car and I finally bought one. I’ve also been working on my MBA application, but enough about my excuses, lets move on to the beer making. Several weeks ago I brewed my Vienna Oktoberfest and it fermented a little too long now, but I...

Brew Update and Results
I know my last blog entry about the bottling was delayed. I posted the blog about a week and a half after I bottled the beer. Since then I have put the brews into my fridge and have let them conditioned in a cold environment for a week.   Now that they have been chilling for a week, the beer is as ready as it will ever be. This is the moment I have been waiting for, to enjoy the fruits of my...

The Bottling
Last week I bottled my beer. I was very surprised I made it to this step as I was concerned about the contamination to my beer. After I taste tested it and determined that it tasted like flat beer, as it should, I moved on to the bottling stage. A couple of things I learned to help me in the future were: Sanitize the measuring spoon - I did not realize until I was about to put the sugar...

Brew Your Own's Newbrew page →
When Yenny got me my Mr. Beer kit last Christmas, she also got me an issue of Brew magazine.  It features home brewers, has recipes, tips and really focuses on home brewing.  I recommend this magazine for anyone thinking about brewing or anyone already brewing. The link above is an intro article for those new to making their own beer.  The process it features is one that I plan on moving on to...

Pre-Brew Talk
Okay folks so here it goes, I want to brew beer. My goal is to brew my own recipe from scratch and make great tasting Brew Belly original beers. In addition I am going to do a blog about it. Brewbelly.com is a blog about BREWING and not beer itself. Over the past few months I have grown a strong interest in brewing my own beer as a hobby.  However, due to me finishing college and the various...

Under Construction
Finally moved into my new apartment. Now I have the space and time (hopefully) to start brewing beer.  Stay posted for entries as I take on beer brewing on my own. Until then, this blog will remain under construction. In the mean time keep enjoying your favorite brews.
