Pre-Brew Talk

Okay folks so here it goes, I want to brew beer. My goal is to brew my own recipe from scratch and make great tasting Brew Belly original beers. In addition I am going to do a blog about it. Brewbelly.com is a blog about BREWING and not beer itself. Over the past few months I have grown a strong interest in brewing my own beer as a hobby.  However, due to me finishing college and the various living environments I was in, I felt it was best for me to wait for the optimal conditions to brew my beer. After all I am very serious about this and if you are going to brew your own, do it right.  Well now the wait is over people, I finally have my own apartment, resources, and time to do this, so now it begins.

The posts to come will be about everything that comes my way while brewing. Accomplishments, lessons learned, the let downs, and the feedback from you, my followers.  This will be a way for me to communicate with you all about this journey of mine, and to look back at what I was experiencing and feeling.

However, I will not be doing this alone. Along for the ride is my best friend and companion, Yenny.  With her guidance we try to be interactive and as transparent as possible. So any time there is something going on in the process it will be known on this blog, every brew, every recipe, and every technique, as well as what I learn along the way. I encourage feedback from you and you will see posts from me with questions for you to answer. Any comment, any suggestion, any request for clarification is greatly appreciated.

After doing some research and brainstorming I came up with a plan, a curriculum if you will. Right now I have a Mr. Beer brewing kit to start off. It makes about 2 gallons of beer (about 20 12oz. bottles) and it uses a malt extract method.  After I feel like I have mastered the Mr. Beer kit, I plan on moving up to a 5 gallon extract method and from there move on to dry ingredients, more complex methods, and different styles of bottling and kegging.  Hopefully I will be able to brew almost any recipe with ease and eventually create my own.

After I reach my goal I do not plan on stopping.  I hope to continue to make great recipes and brew my favorite types of beer (Irish red ales, and honey browns) along with other fermented beverages likes mead, cider, and wine, also with the possibility of making my own cheeses.

I open up my hobby to you and hope you enjoy reading and seeing the process that I will experience. Expect plenty of pictures and visual aids as I expect feedback from you all.

Now that I have this out of the way… time to start brewing.
